United - Competitive Travel
United is Jackson Hole Youth Soccer’s travel soccer program, and is open to players U9-U14. It is recommended for players who have played for multiple seasons and have a good grasp of soccer fundamentals. The program is designed to be in line with the United States Soccer Federation's (USSF) Player Development Initiatives, which prioritize individual player development and strive to help each player reach their full potential on and off the field.
There are two United seasons in the fall and spring. Team aged U9 to U12 train two days per week while teams aged U13 to U14 practice three days per week. JHYS recognizes that travel sports in our region require a substantial commitment of time and financial resources. With that in mind, our United program seeks to maximize local opportunities while seeking out an appropriate level of competition for each team. We also strive to send all our teams to the same events and tournaments in order to allow families to travel together and build club camaraderie. All eligible United teams compete in the Snake River League based in Eastern Idaho, playing two games on a scheduled Saturday. They also compete in 2 regional tournaments per season. Game uniforms are required for participation and must be purchased through our existing online team store partner, Soccer Post, America’s Soccer Store. The uniform cost (approximately $155) is in addition to the registration fee. Ordering details will be emailed with your registration confirmation. After you have successfully registered for the program, you will receive a confirmation email with important detailed information on the upcoming season.
Important Club Changes Starting June 2026
Age Group Change:
As part of a nationwide mandate from US Youth Soccer, JHYS, along with all USYS clubs around the country, will be adjusting age groups to more closely align with school year, August 1st-July 31st groupings. This is intended to better align players with peers in their grade levels. We will do our best to follow the spirit of this change, and place players with their grade level team wherever possible. For players born August 1-September 15, we will have a waiver process similar to TCSD for kids to play up if they are in school with the older grade level.
For further specifics about the age groups beginning in Fall 2026: https://www.jacksonholeyouthsoccer.org/2026-2027-age-groups
Competitive Changes:
Beginning this Fall season, we will introduce tiered teams for players U12 (6th grade) and above. Depending on the numbers, we may combine age groups where needed (e.g. U13/U14). At the U9, U10, and U11 levels, players will continue on single birth-year teams wherever possible, with rosters balanced evenly when an age group has multiple teams. The club’s focus at this level is to train fundamentals of the soccer, encourage good sportsmanship and teamwork, and instill a life-long love of the game. Once players reach middle school, the tiered structure takes effect — providing a natural progression through the program and introducing healthy competition as players mature.
June Assessments:
Registration is now open for June Assessments
This June 1-5, 2026 during the final week of our United season, we will hold assessments for upcoming Fall 2026/ Spring 2027 seasons.
Rising U12, U13, and U14 players (rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders born August 1, 2012 through July 31, 2015) will be required to register for assessments and pay a $50 assessment fee, which will be applied to their United registration fee for the Fall 2026 season. For both boys and girls, our expectation is to combine U13 and U14 players and create combined age group tiered teams. For U12s, we expect to have tiered A and B teams within that age group. In rare circumstances, we may adjust that structure to better accommodate player numbers, roster sizes, or player abilities.
Rising U9, U10, and U11 (rising 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders born August 1, 2015 thourgh July 31, 2018) will be asked to register for the assessment and pay a $50 deposit which will be applied to their Fall 2026 registration fee. The assessment for this age group will allow JHYS to plan ahead and create evenly tiered teams (where enrollment numbers dictate), ahead of the Fall season.
Assessments for all age groups will take the form of a season ending, week long tournament. All United players from this spring season will be included. Girls teams will play Monday/Wednesday, while boys teams will play Tuesday/Thursday. We will combine age groups and assess players who have registered. This will provide players with a fun end of season atmosphere while also letting us assess players well ahead of the fall season.
Teams will be announced and invitations will be sent through Playmetrics on June 15th. While players may still register for individual seasons, these assessments will set our teams for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 seasons. Any new or departing players and roster changes between seasons will be handled on a case by case basis. Players will recieve a registration invitation through Playmetrics for their assigned team.
United assessment registration will be open from Monday, May 11 – Wednesday, May 27. A detailed Fall 2026 United schedule will be published on the JHYS website and shared with families by May 20.
*United Assessment Schedule for June 1st-5th:
United Girls:
Rising U9, U10, and U11 players (rising 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders born August 1, 2015 though July 31, 2018) - Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00-5:15, Alpine Field
Rising U12, U13, and U14 players (rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders born August 1, 2012 through July 31, 2015) - Monday and Wednesday from 4:30-6:00, Classical Academy Grass Fields
United Boys:
Rising U9, U10, and U11 players (rising 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders born August 1, 2015 though July 31, 2018) - Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-6:45, Alpine Field
Rising U12, U13, and U14 players (rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders born August 1, 2012 through July 31, 2015) - Monday and Wednesday from 6:00-7:30, Classical Academy Grass Fields
We will also hold an additional, optional assessment for all players from 4:30-6:00PM on Friday, June 5 at the Alpine Fields. We know a number of players have a conflicts throughout the week and this is intended as an alternative. There is no need to attend three assessment sessions.
Schedule Changes:
We are revamping the United schedule to better reflect a progression in the commitment requisite for each age level. Wherever possible, we will still send all teams to the same locations and events. However, this new structure better reflects the priorities of travel soccer as players get older, building year over year.
U9 and U10 Teams – 8-week season (8/24-10/18), 4 Weekends of Snake River League Play, One Away Tournament (one less week and one less tournament than in years past)
U11 and U12 Teams – 9-week season (8/24-10/24), 4 Weekends of Snake River League Play, Two Away Tournaments (one additional weekend of Snake River League play)
U13 and U14 Teams – 9-week season (8/24-10/24), 4 Weekends of Snake River League Play, Two Away Tournaments (one additional weekend of Snake River League play)
Roster Guidelines:
One of the challenges this new structure is designed to alleviate is large roster sizes. By having flexibility to combine players from different age groups and assessing players well before the season, one of our goals is to place players on teams that have healthy roster sizes where they recieve both adequate playing time and rest. Below are our ideal roster sizes for each age group:
U9 and U10 Teams (7v7) - 10 Players
U11 and U12 Teams (9v9) - 13 Players
U13 and U14 Teams (11v11) - 16 Players
We will adhere as closely as possible to these roster sizes, while also holding in mind that part of our mission is to provide every player in the valley with a quality soccer experience.
All of these changes are intended to help us get a head start on planning and set clear expectations, which will lead to clearer communication, less ambiguity, and a better United experience for players, coaches, and parents alike. Thank you for being a part of our soccer community. We recognize there are a number of changes heading into the fall, and we've put real thought into each one with the goal of strengthening out United program. If you have questions in the meantime, please don't hesitate to reach out. We will also be hosting a coffee chat on May 27th at 10am at Snake River Roasters, where we'll be available to talk through any other questions or concerns if you would like to discuss them in person.
